Hebrews 12:1-2
Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
I would love to tell you about those witnesses. I would be happy to let you know exactly who is in that great cloud of witnesses and what they are witness to. If only I knew. What I can tell you is that the cloud of witnesses makes me want to give more glory to GOD the way He wants me to - in the open absence of sin. I have been a coward in the ways I give glory to GOD. GOD and the witnesses know that I could do more towards the kingdom and they see me cower into my own shadow at times. The shadow of myself that does not resist and strive against sin, but dwells in it. I need to lay aside the weight of my sin! I need to flee from the sin that easily ensnares me or I will not endure the race set before me.
Jesus Christ endured more than any of us are, and more than many of us ever will. Many followers pay a large price for the sake of Jesus Christ. Those in Christ each have their own sufferings, but the strength in Jesus Christ is a price that is well-worth the peace and comfort that it bestows upon us.
We’ve all been weary in one or more aspects of our life - whether it be spiritual, mental, physical or an amalgam of mixed sufferings. Jesus Christ endured sufferings that allow us to walk the path of hope and faith set before us today. Even if the world doesn’t preach or agree, walking in the steps of Jesus Christ is the best place to be.
I pray that we all lead a life to the glory of GOD as the Son did, so that the great cloud of witnesses may rejoice at our steps following Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
Amen.
